THE PROPERTY

This beautiful site is situated close to the shores of Lake Arenal, Costa Rica's largest lake. The lake was created in 1973 when a dam was built to provide hydroelectric power to the country.

This beautiful site is situated along the shores of Lake Tilarán, the neighboring town, is in the center of farmlands and ranches and features an abundance of shopping, banks, a post office, medical facilities and some of the best restaurants in the area. From there, you have easy access to the western beaches of Nicoya and Guanacaste or to the famous Monteverde Cloud Forest. It is an unpretentious and easy going place with a comfortable climate and a variety of local diversions including the popular Fiesta de Dias Civicas. The property is located 200km (124 miles) NW of San José; 20km (12 miles) NW of Monteverde; 70km (43 miles) SE of Liberia; 17km (10 miles) from the Arenal Volcano; and 20km (12 miles) from the world famous Tabacon Hot Springs.

This area remains one of the least-developed tourism regions in Costa Rica, but not for lack of resources or charms. It does, after all, have Lake Arenal, a man-made lake with an area of 86 sq. km (34 sq. miles), making it the largest lake in Costa Rica, surrounded by rolling hills that are partly pastured and partly forested. The perfect cone of Arenal Volcano lies at the opposite (east) end of the lake from the small towns of Tilarán and Nuevo Arenal. The volcano's barren slopes are a stunning sight from here, especially when reflected in the waters of the lake. The northwest side of Lake Arenal is a dry region of rolling hills and pastures, distinctly different from the more lush landscape near La Fortuna.

The lake has great fishing and windsurfing, and offers a scenic drive around the eastern shore with excellent lake and volcano views. Boating, canoeing, riding, mountain biking and hiking are all popular pastimes. There are many lodges around the lake to provide accommodations for visitors. The lake's other claim to fame is its rainbow-bass fishing. These fighting fish are known in Central America as guapote and are large members of the cichlid family.

THE HOMES

The homes at Buena Vista I are built in the shape of an octagon. It has a style and ambiance that will truly assist you in your pursuit of the ultimate relaxed environment. Our floor plans encourage a free flow of individual movement with the circular shape naturally eliminating any sharp corners and encourages creative furniture placements and traffic patterns. With an interior that boasts open floor plans and exquisite teak featured appointments, our homes feel incredibly peaceful, spacious and relaxing. The curved nature and styling of the rooms are perfect for large banks of windows dramatically framing your lake views, while an abundance of natural light fills the structure.
A circular home is one of the safest and most secure of all dwellings. The inherent strength of the round interconnected Components forms a strong structural web. The home is built upon reinforced concrete piers, joined together by reinforced concrete beams. The entire base acts as one monolithic unit. The steel superstructure of the house is welded to plates which are tied directly to the footings. Aside from the main steel carrying beam, the entire structure is galvanized steel, essentially a post and beam type construction, where the weight is transferred to the structural piers. Structural, electrical and mechanical systems have been rigorously studied and certified by the Costa Rican College of Engineers, which must approve all new structures in excess of 30 m2(square meters). This approval process is to ensure the safety and durability of new construction in Costa Rica.

The exterior consists of a fiber-cement type board covered with a wire mesh with 1.5 cm. of mortar which is then covered with a stucco finish. The windows and doors are a superior-quality European designed reinforced vinyl. The steel roofing is enameled inside and outside. Outdoor decking consists of heartwood teak planking. Ceramic floors for both kitchen and bath are imported from Italy and the fixture and appliances are American style. The interior floors are teak and comes as a standard feature of the home. The interior walls are insulated and dry walled. Kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities are handcrafted locally using Costa Rica woods.

Your home construction will be overseen by an experienced North American construction manager.
